Artist and Educator
Vanessa Calvert is a mixed-media sculptor and installation artist living and working in Portland, OR. Calvert received her MFA in Contemporary Art Practice from Portland State University in 2009 and her BA at Whitman College in 2003. Working primarily with wood and fabric, her sculptures explore the ways in which the objects around us reflect our evolving sense of identity. Calvert addresses subjects including domesticity, consumption, and our interactions with both physical and non-physical space. She has served as an adjunct professor of sculpture and design at Portland Community College and has mentored at Oregon College of Art & Craft and the AC+D MFA program. Calvert currently works as a project manager and fabricator for Healy-Thurston, a public art initiative serving venues in the Pacific Northwest, as well as Site Specific LLC, an art design and fabrication company that caters to public and private clients.
