Privileging the Surface

Sarah Brusstar is a surface designer working in both textile and hardgoods. She investigates surface as “the moment of human encounter” where designers can change how we understand the world, envision ourselves, and perform on a cognitive level. Her current project applies this philosophy to athletic apparel, where new digital methods of surface design can be leveraged to appeal to a typically overlooked audience—or to shave seconds off of an Olympian’s time.
