As a designer I want to be capable of working with any idea and any material, or at least have a strong understanding of material limitations. The fastest way to learn these limitations is through the practice of craft. Craft is the one of most important foundation for me, even if it’s only a foundation and not a continued practice. Knowing how far the wood grain can bend before it splits or how
to mix concrete properly for different applications. These seemingly trivial skills start to build upon each other and eventually a new process or skill is discovered. Craft knowledge ultimately gives freedom to the creative mind.
