Dangers of the journey

As a survivor of stalking, sexual assault and harassment while walking, this project is a way for me to render meaning from these experiences, and to reveal the fear suffered. This project uses fantasy as a means to criticize this particular social condition. The fantastical also reflects my own personal view of the world and is a way for me to add my own voice to this particular conversation.

The cloak represents myself and the marks left on my psyche after these damaging occurrences. It is also the protective “skin” created by the mind to protect itself. The map reinforces the connection of fear

to place and the shadow encompassing the act of walking. These objects express my own personal feelings of being scared and isolated during these attacks. Embroidering the walks on the map is a way of helping me to confront these fears and meditate on these experiences.
